On Jewel's 6th birthday, Tom writes: "Jewel is still going strong. This fall produced too many ducks and geese to count. Not one bird lost, thanks to her. Four days in the field she found, flushed, and retrieved 17 pheasants and around the house managed to retrieve a few ruffed grouse. From the day I picked her up she has been ready to take every step I take inside or out. Show her a shot gun and she will beat me to the truck. She is truly one of a kind and my best friend."
